Astra Labs was the love of my life, and one of the greatest things I have ever had a chance to be apart of. It was a non-profit I started in 2018 when I was 16 after I got a surprise grant from TOMS (yes, the shoe company) at the Teen Vogue Summit in LA. With that 25k, I dropped out of high school and chased Astra Labs for 6+ years, until 2024.
Astra Labs was a 501(c)3 non-profit that was designed to build D2C human services software. While we were around, we ran AnxietyHelper, Verena, Aetheria, Isolated Not Alone, Everine, and built Aureus as well. Seon was also incubated for Astra Labs but was never released. We got to make amazing work through contracts with companies like Godiva,
The non-profit was shut down, mainly because I was struggling with my own mental health issues, as well as other personal problems. Astra was my everything. What I'm most proud of and want to remember most about it, is the people who's lifes it touched. There was a lot of people who messaged me saying AnxietyHelper, Aetheria, Verena, etc saved their live. Astra was always for you, and remains yours. How beautiful it is to build something that enriches the live of people - thank you all for believing in me and trusting me.
An episode of me running Astra was featured in the documentary show, 'Surviving Suicide', which later won an Emmy. You can find that episode here ()[].
There was a lot of amazing people who contributed to Astra's success: mainly Jenna Rodarte, Katie Spencer, Rigoberto Molina, George Southworth (who came to every interview and let me drop out of my 2nd homeschooling program after I was kicked from the first), Ben Henderson, Bear Matthews, Karan Pandya, Rae, Roxie, Fouzan Alam, Yifei Ren, Ryan Camp, and more. Astra was also supposed by many other organizations, like Three Dot Dash Foundation, Conferences for Women, TOMS, FLDWRK, and more.
Although Astra is gone, I think about it every day. I will do justice to the concept in the future.
